Last week, the first round of standings for the Mid-Atlantic Bicycle Racing Association’s (MABRA) Best All-around Rider (BAR) were released. A season-long competition that ranks riders according to their results in a series of different types of road racing, the BAR is traditionally hotly contested. Although it is often dominated by teams developed bred in the bone for the tarmac, the standings show a strong start to the season for The Bike Lane.
In the Men’s 3 category, Andrew Steele is sitting in 3rd and Pierce Schmerge in 13th. Recent addition Mike Kingery snuck his way into the 45+ rankings with consistent rides for 11th. A database error is preventing the Novice Women field from registering; however, Mary Tyson’s top-10 at Black Hills and 3rd place at Jefferson Cup are certain to land her in a good position. Solid performances by all have garnered the team a 12th spot overall in the Club rankings, earning one of the best positions the Sugoi-clad road squad has ever achieved. Amidst elite powerhouses and clubs with membership numbers that reach 3 digits, it’s definitely nothing to complain about!
It’s still early – only 2 BAR races have been completed – and anything can happen as the season gathers steam. The team couldn’t ask for a better start to the year, and looks forward to meeting everybody out on the road for the next installment.
