Cross season is well underway, and The Bike Lane has been busy racing every weekend. Most recently, the team made appearances at Psycho Cross, Hyattesville, and Seneca Creek. Highlights are below, but you can also check out the full team results here.
Psycho Cross was a technical course with little time for recovery. Two run-ups and two set of barriers tested riders on every lap. Our Juniors were the Bike Lane podium stars at this race, with G Schulz placing 2nd in the Men’s Cat 4 and Olivia Schulz winning the Women’s Juniors 10-14 race.
Hyattesville was the following day, and a morning of rain made course conditions interesting. The singletrack section in the woods shook things up on every lap and caused chaos in the form of crashes, flats, and broken spirits. However, Brooks Bowman had a great race, taking 3rd in the Men’s 3/4 in what was only his fourth cyclocross race ever.
Seneca Creek CX
Seneca Creek Cyclocross Challenge was this past weekend. The Cat 4 men had a layer of frost to contend with in the morning, but it soon warmed up to make a beautiful day for ‘cross. Wide snaking turns made this a fast course that was constantly climbing or descending, and the deep sand pits were entertaining for spectators, with only a few people successfully staying on their bikes. As usual, Mary Tyson could be spotted on the Women’s Cat 3 podium, this time in 3rd. Don’t expect too see here there for long however, as it is only a matter of time before she will be on the elite podium instead.
DCCX is coming up next, with a free women’s clinic on Saturday and the race on Sunday. As one of the largest cyclocross race in the region, this is sure to be a big day for both spectators and racers. For anyone who is on the fence about ‘cross, there is even a Rookie Race at 4:15. So pack up your cowbells and come out to race or cheer on the Bike Lane and bring your friends, family, neighbors, and anyone else you know who doesn’t hate fun.
