12 Hours of Cranky Monkey and Reston Grand Prix

It has been a busy race season for the Bike Lane with races every weekend including road races such as the Poolesville Road Race, Mountain Massacree, the Tour of Washington County, Ride Sally Ride, and mountain bike races such as the Blackwater Classic, Bear Creek Challenge, and the Massanutten Hoo-Ha. This past weekend was a big one for the Bike Lane, with two favorite local races: the 12 Hours of Cranky Monkey and the Reston Grand Prix.

12 Hours of Cranky Monkey

The 12 Hours of Cranky Monkey is often remembered as one of the hottest days of the year for most racers as it is a long day of racing in the peak of the summer heat. This year wasn’t as hot as years past, but it was one of the hottest days so far this year, which always adds its own challenges to a long day.

The Bike Lane women had a fantastic day with Julie Guy, Beth Fulton, and Christina Higgens taking second, third, and fourth in the 12-hour solo Category; Karen Talley Mead taking second in Female Duo; and Catherine Sheridan taking second in the 3-hour race. In the Co-ed Trio division, John Claman, Lynn Grasso, Steve Dontigny took third place in a sprint finish with teammate David Simpson, whose team took fourth.

Reston Grand Prix

The next day, Reston Grand Prix racers woke up to rain, and a lot of it. Luckily, the worse of the rain stopped early, but it still made for slippery conditions in the morning. The Bike Lane had riders across almost every field, with the team’s most notable finishes in the Men’s Cat 4 race. Brooks Bowman took the win and Ryan Jenkins came in ninth.
